the second offering from brooklyn-based let s play house offshoot, room service, is, like the first one, a four-track solo ep by one of the most exciting house music talent s around. records features four originals by spanish producer kresy, who s already released a few 12inchs on the esteemed hivern discs as well as retrofit, freerange, and his own discomaths. the songs included here vacillate between hands-in-the-air feel good disco and jittery, shuffling house, though they re all unified by an inherent grooviness and bright tonality.

feel the drum beat of uneasy change in the eager hand drums, bass throbs, and stalking synth stabs turning up the tension like rents in a hip neighborhood. terrence parker goes more optimistic turn on the remix. hand stamped vinyl only rsd.

this four track ep kicks off with cladistic mutation , a sparse underwater soundtrack with only the gentlest suggestion of rhythm, lots of reverb and tiny little details that float by like micro-bacterial debris. m2 is a more beat driven dub track but is still way below the surface: the kicks are smooth and hunched over, the chords are smeared out in all directions and the atmosphere is lo-fi and grainy. on the flip, grain gets even more energetic, with firm techno kick drums setting a stern tempo as all sorts of aqueous details and spacious effec ts peppe r the groove. there s a heavenly nature to the pads and an industrial texture to the percussion that makes this a cerebral but physical affair from start to finish. lastly, neurowaves closes things down in blissfully dubbed out and horizontal fashion, with large sweeping pads, tweaked filters and evocative little details all placing you firmly under water.

lee webster s soul reply ep kicks of the year for iutsan with two contrasting, yet seemingly connected tracks. on the chocho side you ll find soul replied - a low slung love song with moodymann-esque sampling and swung-out drums, dipping out occasionally as the female vocal comes in like a lullaby. in contrast on the culo side, you ll find devils avocado - an ibiza terrace style jam that builds from the cutting synth line into a crescendo that finally drops into a total dc10 weapon. an strong start to the year for barcelona based i used to sleep at night.

eye teeth, the new techno sub-label of interdimensional transmissions, launches with an ep from israel vines. the label say: we started this sublabel as way of exploring pure and experimental techno in an entirely contemporary context (where it often uses historical lenses and a wider musical context). this is techno from detroit and america, not detroit techno. we would like to see american techno evolve, and this new imprint is an attempt to be a catalyst in that arena.
